Project Overview
We recently completed this elevated Indian sandstone patio in Rossendale, transforming an uneven garden space into a clean, usable outdoor area with a strong, raised finish.
The project involved building the patio completely from scratch, including the removal of a large tree stump that was taking up a significant portion of the space.
Groundworks & Preparation
We began by clearing the entire area, removing vegetation, old materials, and the large stump to create a clean working base.
Once cleared, the area was excavated and levelled, ready for the construction of a new raised patio structure. A solid sub-base was installed and compacted to provide long-term stability and ensure the patio remains level over time.
Retaining Structure & Base
Due to the height difference in the garden, we constructed a timber retaining edge around the perimeter. This not only supports the raised patio but also creates a clean and defined border.
The base was then prepared using a suitable bedding layer to ensure each slab sits firmly and evenly across the entire surface.
Patio Installation
The patio was laid using Autumn Indian Sandstone, chosen for its natural tones and variation, which work perfectly with the surrounding garden and greenery.
Each slab was carefully positioned and levelled to create a smooth, consistent finish, with attention paid to spacing and alignment throughout.
We also installed a set of matching steps, providing easy access up onto the raised patio area and completing the overall look.
Finished Result
The finished patio has completely transformed the garden into a practical and inviting outdoor space, perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
The raised design, combined with the warm tones of the sandstone and clean timber edging, gives the area a natural yet structured feel that blends well with the surroundings.
The full project was completed in just five days from start to finish.
