Project Overview
This project in Blackburn involved a complete transformation of an outdoor space that was tired, uneven and suffering from poor drainage issues. The homeowners wanted a solution was would modernise the space and solve the drainage problems. Our goal was to create a smart and low maintenance area that would look fantastic all year round, while also being fully functional.
Patio and Lawn Removal
We started the project by carefully and precisely removing the entire existing patio along with the old lawn. The garden had ongoing drainage issues, so it was essential for us to start from scratch and address the problem properly.

Sleeper Retaining Wall and Patio Installation
We installed a new timber sleeper retaining wall around the perimeter of the new patio, this not only helped to neatly define the space but also worked perfectly to retain the raised levels. Then we installed a new hardcore foundation across the patio area, followed by a geotextile membrane sheeting, this prevents weed growth and helps aid the drainage. To further aid the drainage, acro channel drains were placed around the full perimeter of the patio, allowing surface water to drain away effectively.
New Lawn & Drainage System
Once the patio was complete, attention was turned to the lawn. The original lawn was excavated before we installed a perforated drainage pipe system throughout the garden. All the pipes were strategically placed to lead to a central soakaway crate, helping to manage excess water and prevent future drainage problems. Finally we supplied and laid high-quality top-soil across the area, ready for the installation of fresh, natural, meadow turf, leaving the garden looking lush, level and ready to enjoy.
The Final Result
The finish garden is a stunning and low maintenance solution that not only enhances the property’s outdoor space but also improves drainage and usage all year-round. The homeowners were thrilled with their new outdoor space that is perfect for entertaining an relaxing.
