Indoor Patio with Chunky Step in Rossendale
This unique project in Rossendale was all about creating a flawless transition between a new conservatory and the garden, blurring the lines between inside and out with high-quality porcelain tiles. The job was completed from start to finish in just four days.
Before
The starting point was a bare, dusty concrete floor in the newly built conservatory. Outside, the area in front of the bi-fold doors was just a patch of lawn, creating a harsh separation between the new indoor space and the garden.
Project Steps: Creating the Perfect Flow
This project required precision tiling both inside and out and to achieve the desired seamless effect.
- Indoor Preparation & Tiling:
- First, we prepared the internal concrete subfloor to ensure it was perfectly level and clean. We then began laying the large 900 x 600mm ivory porcelain tiles across the entire conservatory, using a levelling system to guarantee a flawless, flat finish. We also expertly tiled the side copings and created a raised lip around the edge for a polished look.
- Building the Outdoor Platform Step:
- Simultaneously, we excavated the area outside the bi-fold doors to create a solid foundation for the new step. This was built up to the perfect height to provide a smooth, level transition from the inside floor.
- Tiling the Step for a Seamless Look:
- The key to this project was continuing the same tiling outside. We laid the same 20mm ivory porcelain tiles across the platform step, ensuring the grout lines matched up perfectly with the internal floor. This creates an unbroken visual flow when the bi-fold doors are open.
- Final Installations
- Once all the tiles were laid, both inside and out, the entire area was grouted to a high standard. The finished chunky platform step provides a grand and inviting entrance to the garden, effectively making the patio feel like an extension of the conservatory.
