We recently completed a stunning patio renovation project in Rochdale, transforming a tired and uneven outdoor space into a stylish and practical garden area. The original Indian sandstone patio had significantly deteriorated over time, with failed foundation that made the area unstable and unattractive.
Before
The existing patio in this Rochdale garden had seen better days. The Indian sandstone was uneven, discoloured and loose in several areas, making the surface both unattractive and unsafe. Over time, the foundation beneath had deteriorated so badly that large sections had begun to sink and shift, leading to poor drainage and pooling water after rain. The surrounding flowerbeds lacked definition, and without proper edging, the space felt messy and unfinished. It was clear that a complete overhaul was needed to bring the garden back to life.

Our Process:

Full Removal
The old patio was carefully taken up, and the worn-out foundation was excavated completely to allow for a fresh start. This ensured we eliminated all underlying issues that had caused the original patio to fail. -
Sub-Base Preparation
A new sub-base was installed using compacted hardcore to ensure long-term strength and durability. The base was levelled and compacted thoroughly to create a solid foundation for the new surface. -
Drainage Installation
We added an ACO channel drain along the house to manage surface water runoff efficiently and help prevent future drainage issues. This addition will protect the property from water pooling and enhance the patio’s usability during wet weather. -
Relaying the Patio
The original Indian sandstone slabs were cleaned and relaid on a new full mortar bed for a firm, level, and high-quality finish. We used SBR bonder in the mortar mix to increase adhesion and longevity, ensuring the slabs remain secure and weather-resistant. -
Retaining Edging
Treated timber sleepers were installed as stylish retaining edges to support the flowerbeds and frame the patio area. These not only improve the structure of the garden layout but also a warm, natural contrast to the stone paving.

The revamped patio now offers a clean, sturdy, and attractive outdoor space that complements the property’s character. The mix of relaid stone, sleeper edging, and new drainage ensures both style and performance for years to come.
