Project Overview
We recently completed a stunning sloped block paved driveway in Rossendale, transforming a challenging, uneven space into a modern, functional entrance. The project required careful planning and precision to ensure durability, proper drainage and an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Site Preparation and Excavation
The first step involved clearing the existing uneven gravel and excavating the driveway to the required depth. This included the removal of debris, loose stones and any obstructions. Because the driveway was on a slope, we carefully graded the surface to create a solid foundation for the new block paving.

Groundwork and Drainage
There was a big focus on ensuring proper drainage to prevent water runoff issues on the sloped surface. A geotextile membrane was installed to stabilise the ground and a sub-base of MOT Type 1 aggregate was laid and compacted to provide a strong and stable base.
Laying the Block Paving
The client chose grey-toned blocks laid in a herringbone pattern. This design not only creates a modern and elegant touch, but also boosts the strength of the driveway, preventing future movement. Each block was carefully laid to maintain a uniform alignment while also accommodating the slope. A darker border was used around the edges to add contrast and definition. To enhance the driveways structure and minimise the risk of movement, durable edging blocks were added around the border. After the blocks were laid, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints to lock the blocks in place.
The Final Result
The finished driveway not only enhances the property’s kerb appeal but also provides a durable and practical parking space. The sloped design was expertly managed to prevent pooling, ensuring longevity and functionality. The contrast of light and dark block paving created a visually striking effect. The client was thrilled with the result.
