New Tarmac Driveway with Block Paved Borders in Burnley
We recently completed this tarmac driveway installation in Burnley, transforming an ageing and worn driveway into a smart, modern entrance with a smooth new tarmac surface and carefully designed block paving features.
This was a complete driveway transformation from the groundwork upwards. The design combines the durability and practicality of tarmac with decorative paving around the perimeter and a distinctive half-moon paved apron at the entrance, adding extra character and a more premium finish to the property.
From start to finish, the entire transformation was completed in just four days.
Removing & Preparing the Existing Driveway
The original driveway had become tired and uneven, with areas of deterioration and standing water visible across the surface.
We began by excavating the necessary areas and removing the old surface to allow us to properly prepare the driveway underneath.
The groundwork was then carefully levelled and compacted to establish a strong, stable foundation for the new installation. Correct preparation at this stage is essential for creating a driveway capable of handling regular vehicle traffic for years to come.
Half-Moon Block Paved Entrance
One of the standout features of this project is the new half-moon block paved apron installed across the driveway entrance.
Rather than simply running the tarmac directly to the pavement, we created a curved paved entrance that immediately gives the driveway more character.
The paving introduces warm natural tones that complement the stonework of the property and provides an attractive contrast against the dark tarmac.
Block Paved Perimeter
From the half-moon entrance, the block paving continues around the perimeter of the driveway, providing a defined border around the new surface.
The autumn-toned paving incorporates a mixture of warm buff, brown and muted darker shades, helping it blend naturally with the property’s traditional stone exterior.
As well as providing a crisp edge to the tarmac, the border adds another level of detail to what would otherwise be a large uninterrupted surface.
Drainage & Finishing Details
Careful attention was also given to drainage and levels around the property.
Existing drainage requirements were incorporated into the new design, with the finished driveway laid to suitable levels to help direct surface water effectively.
These practical details are particularly important when installing a large driveway and ensure the finished surface performs as well as it looks.
New 10mm Tarmac Surface
With all of the preparation and decorative paving completed, the main driveway was finished with a 10mm tarmac surface.
The tarmac was professionally laid and compacted to create a smooth, consistent finish across the entire driveway.
The deep black surface provides a striking contrast against the autumn-toned block paving and traditional stone property, resulting in a clean and contemporary driveway without looking out of place against the character of the home.
Before:
The existing driveway was ageing and uneven, with worn areas and an entrance that lacked definition. The original surface also did little to complement the attractive stone exterior of the property.
After:
The property now benefits from a smooth new 10mm tarmac driveway framed by warm autumn-toned block paving. A distinctive half-moon paved entrance, matching perimeter border and newly constructed entrance steps introduce additional detail and give the entire frontage a much smarter and more elegant appearance.
