Blackburn Driveway Transformed: From Foundation to Finish
Sometimes, a project comes to us with a bit of a history. Our latest endeavour, a block paved driveway in Blackburn, was one such case. While we don’t have “before” photos to show you the initial state, suffice it to say, the groundwork had been laid, though perhaps not quite to the client’s satisfaction, by a previous company. That’s where Lakestone Paving stepped in, ready to pick up the reins and transform this space into a beautiful, functional driveway.
Starting The Block Paved Driveway
Our journey began by establishing a solid perimeter. We carefully installed durable sleepers all around the edging, creating robust retainers that would define the new driveway and ensure its longevity. With the borders in place, we moved on to the crucial subbase. A high-quality Type 1 MOT hardcore was laid, compacted to perfection, providing the essential foundation for what was to come.
Next, a critical layer of membrane sheeting was meticulously unfurled across the entire driveway area. This thoughtful addition acts as a barrier, preventing weed growth and enhancing the stability of the paving above.
Before and After:
With the foundations secure, we began to shape the surface. A generous layer of sharp sand was precisely laid, bringing the driveway to the correct levels and incorporating vital acro channel drains. These drains are essential for efficient water management, ensuring your driveway remains puddle-free, even during heavy downpours.
Then came the exciting part: laying the block paving! Our skilled team carefully installed Bracken block paving (see the gallery below) in a classic 45° herringbone pattern. This choice not only offers timeless appeal but also provides exceptional interlocking strength. To complement the main driveway, we crafted tailor-made edging using elegant Buff block paving, perfectly chosen by the customer to frame the space and add a touch of contrasting warmth. Final Result:
From the initial preparation of the ground, through the precise laying of the subbase and membrane, to the artful installation of the Bracken block paving and the bespoke Buff edging, this Blackburn driveway project was a testament to meticulous planning and expert craftsmanship. The result is a stunning, durable driveway that not only enhances the curb appeal of the home but also provides a welcoming and functional entrance for years to come.
