Project Overview
This driveway transformation project in Burnley involved the complete replacement of an old, worn surface with a fresh and durable tarmac finish, enhanced with decorative detailing. The team removed the existing driveway and fully rebuilt the base to ensure long-term performance and visual appeal.
Before
The original driveway surface had become tired, cracked and uneven, with multiple patches of damage and poor drainage causing puddling. The overall look was dated and no longer matched the property’s elegant stonework or front elevation. The client requested a more durable solution with character features.

Our Process:

Groundworks & Excavation
We began by removing the old, worn tarmac surface and clearing the entire driveway area. The ground was excavated to the necessary depth to allow for a stable foundation and proper drainage. All waste materials were removed from the site. -
Sub-Base Preparation
A new hardcore foundation was laid across the full area and compacted using a heavy-duty plate compactor. A weed-resistant membrane was installed beneath the base to help prevent unwanted growth over time and to add stability beneath the tarmac layer. -
Edging Installation
We supplied and installed Belgium block edging around the perimeter of the driveway. These blocks were set on a strong bed of semi-dry concrete, ensuring long-term stability and a crisp, clean border t define the drive. -
Feature Paving
To add a decorative focal point, we installed a block paving circle at the centre of the driveway. This was laid and levelled with care, blending seamlessly with the surrounding surface while enhancing the driveway’s visual appeal.

Tarmac Surfacing
We laid a 10mm porous tarmac surface across the entire driveway. The tarmac was consolidated to a final thickness of 2 inches, providing a smooth, durable, and low maintenance finish. The porous nature of the tarmac supports proper water drainage and prevents pooling.
Final Result:
The new driveway now features a stunning smooth tarmac finish that enhances the entrance way with a clean, professional look. The Belgium block edging gives the perimeter definition, while the circular feature adds character and charm. Functionally, the surface is now even, well-drained and ready to stand up to years of use.
