Project Overview
Every great transformation starts with a challenge, and this one had plenty! Our client came to us with a classic property that had bags of character… but the driveway? Not so much. The space was cramped, the paving had seen better days, the garden area took up half the usable space, and to top it off, the front wall crumbling away. It wasn’t just a tired driveway, it was a cry for help.
Out with the Old
We started by clearing everything, this included the old paving, the planter and the crumbling wall. What was once a messy, uneven space soon became a blank canvas.
Before and After:
Laying the Groundwork
With the space opened up, we got serious about foundations. We laid a fresh hardcore base and fitted a Geotech membrane to keep things stable and prevent weeds from growing through in the future. Then we screeded sharp sand across the entire area, levelling it to perfection, so it was ready for the paving.
Building a Better Boundary
The original wall had seen better days, it was structurally unsound and barely holding up, so we started fresh. We dismantled the wall with care and then began contructing a brand new boundary wall from high-quality blocks. We built it with a gentle curved design that followed the natural shape of the garden, it gave the driveway a softer edge and helped define the newly extended space in a stylish and welcoming way.
Paving Installation
Next came the main event, the Tegula pencil edge block paving. It was chosen to complement the home’s traditional stonework. We laid the blocks in a beautiful smooth pattern, with clean edges and a crisp charcoal border that really sets everything off.
The Big Reveal
The result? A total transformation! The new wall stands proudly at the front, framing an extended driveway that now fits multiple cars with ease. The paving looks incredible, sleek, timeless and perfectly in tune with the property’s style. And the whole area feels more open, more practical and much more impressive. Our client was absolutely delighted, and so were we. There’s nothing better than turning a tricky space into something smart, solid, and built to last.
