Project Overview
This outdoor space in Colne was ready for a transformation. The client wanted a low maintenance garden that looked clean, modern and functional all year round. We carried out a full redesign, creating a stunning Indian sandstone patio, a raised artificial lawn area and neat flowerbeds framed with timber sleepers.
Before
The original garden in Colne featured a small, dated patio with basic concrete slabs and a patchy, uneven lawn that lacked definition and structure. The space felt underused and disconnected, with no clear layout or inviting features. Weeds had started to creep in, and the garden struggled to serve any practical or visual purpose for the homeowners.

Ground Preparation
We began by clearing the entire area, removing the tired old paving, worn grass, and loose gravel. The ground was then excavated and levelled to create a solid base for both the patio and the artificial grass. -
Base Installation
A new hardcore sub-base was laid and compacted throughout. For the lawn, we installed a grid system for stability, followed by a sharp sand layer and heavy duty membrane sheeting to prevent weed growth and aid drainage. -
Patio Laying
The patio was laid using high-quality Indian sandstone slabs in a contemporary grey tone. Each slab was carefully bedded on a full mortar base (cement mix), with SBR bonder applied to improve adhesion and long-term strength. The result is a beautifully patterned, long-lasting patio with crisp edges and a polished look. -
Raised Lawn & Sleepers
The rear of the garden was framed with treated timber sleepers to create raised flower beds and neatly contain the artificial turf. The lawn itself was laid flush and level, providing a vibrant, all-season green space that’s perfect for play or relaxation.
Final Result:
This garden has gone from patchy and uninspiring to clean-lined and contemporary. The smart layout and premium finishes make the space ideal for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying all year round.
