Brick-Built Front Porch in Halifax

Lakestone Paving recently completed a fantastic brick-built front porch project in Halifax, transforming the entrance of a residential property with a completely new structure constructed from scratch.

While we’re best known for our driveways and patios, our experienced team also undertakes a range of building and brickwork projects.

For this particular installation, the homeowner wanted to improve the appearance of their property’s entrance by replacing the existing flat-roofed doorway surround with a more substantial, traditional-style front porch.

Our team constructed a new blockwork structure, incorporated a pitched roof finished with dark grey roof tiles and prepared the exterior walls with a smooth render finish.

Removing the Existing Entrance Structure

The property originally featured a simple recessed entrance with a flat canopy supported by narrow rendered sections.

Although functional, the existing entrance lacked the character and visual appeal of a traditional pitched-roof porch.

Our team began by preparing the entrance area and establishing the dimensions for the new structure.

The existing front door and curved entrance step were retained, allowing the new porch to be constructed around the existing doorway.

Constructing the New Blockwork Porch

With the entrance prepared, our team began constructing the new porch using concrete blocks.

The blockwork was carefully built on either side of the existing doorway, creating two substantial supporting walls that would form the main structure.

Particular attention was given to ensuring the new walls were correctly aligned and positioned to accommodate the proposed pitched roof.

The completed blockwork provided a strong framework for the new entrance and established the shape of the finished porch.

Installing the Pitched Roof Structure

One of the most noticeable improvements was the addition of a traditional pitched roof.

Rather than retaining the original flat canopy, we constructed a new roof framework with a central apex, giving the entrance a much more attractive appearance.

The roof structure was prepared with timber components and a protective roofing underlay before the installation of the final roof covering.

This new design creates a distinctive entrance feature that complements the property’s existing architecture.

Dark Grey Roof Tile Installation

To complete the new pitched roof, we installed attractive dark grey roof tiles.

The tiles were carefully fitted along both sides of the roof, with matching ridge and edge detailing providing a neat, coordinated finish.

The dark grey colour complements the property’s existing roofline and contrasts particularly well with the white exterior walls.

The result is a smart, traditional-looking porch roof that adds character to the front elevation.

Exterior Rendering and Finishing

Once the blockwork and roof installation were complete, our team prepared the external walls for their final decorative finish.

The exposed blockwork was covered with render, creating a smooth, consistent surface across the porch walls and front gable.

This preparation gives the new structure a much more refined appearance and provides a suitable surface for subsequent exterior decoration.

The photographs show the porch at the rendered stage, before any final decorative paint finish.

A Complete Front Entrance Transformation in Four Days

The difference between the original entrance and the newly constructed porch is impressive.

What was previously a basic flat-roofed doorway has been transformed into a substantial pitched-roof entrance with attractive dark grey tiles and neatly rendered walls.

The new structure adds architectural character and creates a more welcoming entrance to the property.

Despite the amount of work involved, our team completed the construction in just four days, demonstrating the efficiency and experience of the Lakestone Paving team.
