Driveway Extension & Drainage in Burnley
This project in Burnley was a multi-faceted job focused on solving a critical water ingress issue while extending the driveway for more practical parking space. The client was experiencing major water problems with runoff affecting their garage, and the existing driveway needed widening and refreshing to create a single, unified space.
Excavation & Extension
We began by excavating the strip of topsoil and vegetation alongside the existing driveway. This area was dug out to the correct depth to accommodate a new, robust sub-base of MOT Type 1 hardcore, which was then thoroughly compacted to create a solid, load-bearing foundation that perfectly matched the existing levels.
Drainage Installation
To provide a definitive solution to the water problem, a high-capacity ACO channel drain was installed across the full width of the driveway entrance. The channel was set into a concrete bed for maximum stability and connected to an appropriate soakaway, ensuring all surface water is captured and diverted safely away from the garage.

Heavy-Duty Kerbing
For superior strength and a clean, defined edge, new concrete road kerbs were installed at the front of the driveway. Each kerb was bedded on and haunched with concrete to provide a rigid and durable frame, capable of withstanding vehicle movements and separating the drive from the adjacent gravel area.
Paving & Repairs
The new extension was paved using block pavers carefully selected to match the colour and style of the existing driveway. These were laid on a screeded bed of sharp sand. We also carried out localised repair work on the original surface, lifting sunken or damaged sections, re-levelling the sand beneath, and re-laying the pavers to create a uniform, stable surface.
Deep Clean & Finishing
To unify the entire project, both the new and old sections of the driveway were professionally power-washed. This removed all ingrained dirt, moss and algae, bringing the original pavers back to life. Finally fresh kiln-dried sand was brushed meticulously into all the joints across the entire surface and compacted, lockiing the pavers tiightly together to prevent movement and inhibit weed growth.
Final Result:
The final result is a driveway that is not only larger and more practical but also permanently solves the client’s serious drainage problems. The seamless blend between the old and new sections, combined with the deep clean, has given the entire frontage a fresh lease of life. The heavy-duty road kerbs adds a professional finish and guarantee long-term durability for the driveway entrance.
