Project Overview
Our team completed a stunning resin-bound driveway in Accrington, incorporating a brand new retaining wall and Indian sandstone edging to completely transform the property’s entrance. The result is a low maintenance, visually striking driveway that greatly improves both access and appearance.
Before
The existing driveway was narrow, uneven, and surrounded by sloping lawn which limited usable space. To maximise the area and enhance functionality, the client requested a full rebuild with characterful design elements, including a curved retaining wall and seamless resin finish.

Groundworks & Wall Construction
We began by removing all existing surfacing and excavating the driveway area. To support the widened driveway, we constructed a robust retaining wall along the left side of the driveway, formed with a gentle S-bend shape for character. This wall allowed us to raise the ground level by over two feet where needed, expanding the usable space. -
Base Preparation
Once the wall was completed, we laid a new hardcore foundation across all required areas. A heavy-duty membrane was installed to prevent weed growth and support stability. The base was compacted thoroughly before the next stages commenced. -
Edging & Tarmac Base
Indian sandstone setts were laid on a full bed of mortar around the perimeter of the driveway and pathway to create a neat, high-end border. We then applied a porous SMA (stone mastic asphalt) tarmac surface across the entire base, providing excellent drainage and forming the ideal foundation for the resin. -
Resin Surface Application
The final stage was the application of the resin-bound surface using a 3-6mm aggregate size in the colour blend Dobbsweir. Resin was carefully hand-trowelled to a smooth, even finish throughout the driveway and curved path. The natural colour tones work beautifully with the stone house and new edging.

The completed driveway is a true transformation, the rich Dobbsweir resin finish provides a smooth, durable surface that complements the property’s traditional stonework perfectly. The new S-bend retaining wall not only adds structural support but introduces a unique design feature that enhances the overall layout. The Indian sandstone edging frames the driveway beautifully, and the seamless finish of the resin adds a modern, low maintenance touch. The extended width and clean, level surface now offer ample space for parking and access, dramatically improving the practicality and kerb appeal of the home.
