Multi-Level Indian Sandstone Patio in Keighley
This ambitious project in Keighley was a masterclass in maximising a sloped garden’s potential. The challenge was to transform a difficult, overgrown, and dilapidated space into a modern, multi-functional, and low-maintenance garden. This was achieved by creating a stunning combination of a three-level patio using contemporary Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone, framed with timber sleepers, and incorporating a pristine artificial lawn. Incredibly, the entire project was completed in just one week.
Before
The garden was in a state of disrepair. It featured a crumbling, weed-infested concrete patio, rickety steps, and an overgrown, unusable sloped area. The space was impractical, unsafe, and visually unappealing.
Project Steps: A Week of Intense Transformation
Achieving this result in just one week required precise planning and efficient execution.
- Aggressive Site Clearance:
- The first step was a complete gutting of the old garden. Our team worked quickly to clear all the overgrown bushes, weeds, and debris. The old concrete patio and failing retaining walls were broken up and removed, taking the site back to a bare, sloped canvas.
- Building the Structure:
- The key to the new design was creating the three levels. We constructed a robust framework using heavy-duty timber sleepers to act as retaining walls and steps. This terraced structure instantly tamed the slope and defined the different zones for the patios and lawn.
- Laying the Patios & Lawn Base:
- With the structure in place, we laid a solid hardcore foundation, compacted it, and then laid the Kandla grey Indian Sandstone slabs on a full mortar bed for the upper and lower patio areas. Simultaneously, the middle section was prepared with the necessary aggregates to create a stable and permeable base for the artificial grass.
- Final Installations
- The final touches brought the design to life. The high-quality artificial grass was fitted into its sleeper frame, and a new wooden railing was installed alongside the steps for safety and to complete the rustic-modern aesthetic.
