Project Overview
In Halifax, our team transformed a tired gravel strip running alongside the property into a clean, modern Indian Sandstone patio finished in elegant Kendall Grey. The homeowners wanted a more practical and visually appealing space to step out onto—something that complemented the house and felt like a natural extension of the home.
Before
The area previously consisted of a patchy gravel walkway that had become uneven and difficult to maintain. It didn’t provide a welcoming route around the house and lacked definition.

Site Preparation
The existing gravel and loose material were completely removed, and the area was excavated to the proper depth to allow for a new sub-base to be laid. We ensured levels were set to promote good drainage away from the property. -
Foundation Works
We installed a robust MOT Type 1 hardcore base, compacted to provide lasting support. A geotextile membrane was laid to prevent weed growth and stabilise the ground. -
Cement Bedding & Edging
Before laying the sandstone, we applied SBR bonder to the base for enhanced adhesion and durability. Each slab was then laid on a full solid bed of cement to ensure a strong, long-lasting finish. Charcoal block edging was installed first to neatly frame the patio, giving it a clean and defined appearance. -
Laying Kendall Grey Indian Sandstone
The Kendall Grey sandstone slabs were then meticulously laid in a uniform pattern, with clean lines and consistent spacing. Special attention was paid to cuts around existing features, including a recessed manhole which was seamlessly integrated for a flush, invisible finish. -
Jointing & Finishing Touches
Once laid, the slabs were jointed with a resin-based compound in black, which contrasted beautifully with the light stone and enhanced the premium finish. The surrounding soil was levelled and raked, ready for turfing or planting as desired.
Final Result:
The result is a beautifully paved walkway that elevates the entire side of the property. The cool tones of the Kendall Grey sandstone paired with the dark edging create a contemporary, stylish feel. With durable materials and a professional finish, this patio is built to last and ready for all seasons.
