A Keighley Patio Project With a Nasty Surprise!
This job in Keighley started out as a simple patio refresh, but we soon found a major problem hiding underground! A busted drainpipe had washed away the ground beneath the house, putting the whole foundation at risk. So, our team jumped into action to fix the serious stuff before laying a gorgeous new patio.
What Was Going On?
When we lifted the old, wobbly patio slabs, we knew something was up. A broken drainpipe had been secretly leaking for years, creating a massive sinkhole right next to the house. This wasn’t just a wonky patio; it was a serious issue that needed sorting out, fast. The mission changed from just making it look good to making it safe and secure for the long haul.
How We Fixed It
- Dig, Dig, Dig!
- First, we cleared out all the old stuff and excavated the whole area to see exactly what we were dealing with. We found the broken pipe, replaced it, and then got to work on the foundation wall. We patched it up with fresh cement and gave it a coat of bitumen tar to make sure it was completely waterproof.
- Build a Solid Base
- Once the serious repairs were done, we laid down a brand-new hardcore foundation on top of a tough membrane sheet. No more sinking or shifting!
- Better Drainage
- To stop any water causing trouble in the future, we installed a brand-new Aco channel drain right along the house.
- The Grand Finale
- With all the important stuff sorted, it was time for the fun part! We laid a stunning new Indian Sandstone patio in a cool ‘Candle Grey’ colour. Every single slab was set on a full bed of mortar, so it’s built to last.
