We recently completed this garden turfing project in Burnley, transforming an uneven and tired garden into a fresh, level lawn while retaining the established planting and character around the garden.
The homeowners already had a colourful, mature garden, but the central lawn area needed significant improvement. Our aim was to create a much cleaner and more usable lawn while carefully working around the existing flower beds, greenhouse, patio areas and established plants.

Preparing & Levelling the Garden
The first stage involved removing the existing lawn and preparing the ground underneath.
The area required considerable groundwork to establish the correct levels across the garden. Once cleared, we excavated and prepared the lawn area, creating a suitable foundation for the new turf rather than simply laying fresh grass over the existing surface.
This preparation is particularly important for achieving an even lawn and helping the new turf establish successfully.
New Timber Sleeper Edging
As part of the transformation, we installed pressure-treated timber sleepers around sections of the lawn.
These provide a strong retaining edge where levels change throughout the garden while also creating a neat separation between the new lawn, pathways and established planting areas.
The timber complements the natural surroundings and gives the finished lawn a much more defined shape.
Fresh Turf Installation
Once the ground had been prepared and levelled, fresh turf was carefully installed across the entire lawn area.
Each section was laid closely together to create a consistent surface, with the turf carefully cut around the existing garden features and borders.
The result is a lush new lawn that immediately makes the garden feel brighter, tidier and significantly more spacious.
Keeping the Character of the Existing Garden
One of the nicest aspects of this project was being able to transform the lawn without losing the established character of the garden.
The mature shrubs, colourful flowers, borders and existing patio areas were retained, with the new lawn becoming the centrepiece that ties everything together.
Rather than completely redesigning the garden, the work has enhanced what was already there.
The Final Result
The transformation over just five days was incredible. The property now benefits from a seamless, high-quality stone pathway that leads beautifully into a multi-level back patio area. The Kendall Gray Indian Sandstone looks incredibly striking, providing the homeowners with a durable, low-maintenance, and elegant space to enjoy for years to come.
