Natural Stone Wall Restoration in Rossendale
Right, so this lovely old stone wall in Rossendale had seen better days. After years of taking a proper battering from the Lancashire weather, it was looking a bit sorry for itself, crumbling, tired, and generally fed up. Our mission, which we gladly accepted, was to give it a new lease of life, make it strong enough to withstand another hundred winters, and bring back its handsome stone good looks.
Before: Honestly, the wall was in a bit of a state. The mortar between the stones was turning to dust, which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Water was getting in, and the whole thing was covered in years of grime.
After: Chuffed to bits with this one! The wall is now absolutely transformed. It’s strong and sturdy with smart new pointing that makes each stone pop. We gave the stone a proper good scrub, so it’s back to its lovely natural colour. It’s now solid, weatherproof, and looks the business.
What We Did (A Bit of Graft!)
- The Big Rake-Out: First job, we got the grinders out and carefully cleared out all the old, rotten cement from between the stones. It’s a mucky job, but as they say in Lancashire, “where there’s muck, there’s brass!”
- A Proper Good Scrub: To get the stone looking brilliant again, we gave it a bath with some special cleaning potions (hypochlorite, if you’re fancy) and then a good blast with the jet washer. This got rid of all the grime and brought the lovely natural colour back.
- Pointing It Right: Once it was all clean and dry, it was time for the new mortar. We mixed up a top-notch cement brew with a bit of PVA in it to make it extra sticky and tough. We then pointed every single joint, making sure it was all neat and tidy.
- Putting Its Big Coat On: To finish the job off and make sure the wall stays looking this good, we gave it a final coat of a professional-grade weather shield sealer. It’s basically an invisible raincoat for the wall, stopping any water from getting in and causing mischief in the future.

Job’s a good ‘un! The wall has had a complete top-to-bottom makeover. All that cleaning, pointing, and sealing has not only made it strong as an ox but has also made the front of the house look absolutely fantastic. That beautiful Rossendale stone is finally the star of the show again, ready for whatever the weather throws at it.
